JANKI

JANKI
[This is a story of a girl whom I met while travelling in a train with my father.]
I was about to enter waiting car with my father at the railway station.
There I saw a girl crying aloud with a baby boy at her lap.She was the girl who came to us singing songs in the train. She received coins from the passengers.
I asked Achjan [my father] to enquire.
We moved to her.She was weeping panically. Her face was tense with fear.We found the baby boy shivering with high fever. We rushed him to hospital. The doctors gave him medicine. The baby boy then began sleeping calmly. She sat by his bed side.
"What is your name ?" I asked.
"Janky" She replied.
The baby boy was her kunjaniyan[little brother].They were orphans. They lived in the railway platform.Janky and her kunjaniyan sang songs in the trains.Passengers gave them coins. Janky and her kunjaniyan took food on those coins.
It was heavy rain in the last night. Janky and her kunjaniyan slept in the platform under cold wind and rain. The boy got fever on the next morning.
He was unable to go with chechi[elder sister] for singing in the train. So she went alone. As soon as the train reached the station , Janky ran out to the tea stall. She bought bun and tea for kunjaniyan and rushed to him.
Janky called him. She called him aloud. But the boy didnot respond. He was shivering with high fever. Janky was shocked. She became afraid.
Janky cried loud and loud because she had only her kunjaniyan in this world.
I touched her cheek and told her...
" You are not alone.
We are always with you."
Janky smiled happily.
